The ballistic shock skill, unfortunately, really underperforms and breaks a lot of thresholds for most SS weapons, leading to much longer takedowns and a lot of ammo waste, which can result in running out of ammo before the wave end. The crossbow is more or less acceptable only if you take the fast reloads skill as opposed to ReU and upgrade it at least 2 times, but such skillset doesn't align well with pretty much any other weapon except SPX, which is, again, pretty bad to carry with the crossbow because it's too expensive for trash. Its only advantage is ability to block spawnraged FPs/QPs, but if not for that, it would be close to the worst weapon. Although the battlefield has degenerated into more of a slaughterhouse, the change in scenario doesnt discourage these guys. So outside of wave 8+ on HoE it's the best loadout from survivability standpoint.
